Blue Mountains Conservancy is hosting A SWIFT NIGHT OUT on Friday, Sept 18th from 5pm-7pm at Max Square in La Grande, Oregon. The gathering is one of many similar events held across North America each fall to raise awareness about and encourage interest in Chimney and Vaux’s Swifts. A SWIFT NIGHT OUT is a unique opportunity to learn about the Vaux’s swifts that congregate in La Grande each fall as they begin their migration to wintering grounds in Mexico, Central America and Venezuela. Food, beverages, live music, wandering ornithologists, kids’ art and a short presentation on swift biology are planned. Best of all you will have a front row seat to watch as these aerial acrobats dive into a downtown chimney to roost for the night. Bring your lawn chairs and dress for the weather. Binoculars will be helpful but not necessary. The festivities start at 5pm with music and food. The talk is at 6 pm followed by a RAFFLE DRAWING at 6:30 to benefit Blue Mountains Conservancy. The swifts will start showing up around dusk and should be safely in the chimney by about 7:15. The Conservancy is looking for a few volunteers to help the event run smoothly. If you would like to be involved or have questions about the event please get in touch with Conservancy Coordinator, Sue Miller by phone or email: 541-786-2665,[email protected] Comments are closed.
