Ten short years ago, a group of conservationists sat around a kitchen table and debated the best way to preserve a particular parcel of private property for the long-haul. They knew a conservation easement was the best way to protect the environmental investments and stream restoration already completed (shout out to Grande Ronde Model Watershed and partners for that AMAZING project!), but there wasn't a local land trust in existence to hold such an easement...
As we now know, this dedicated group went on to form their own 501(c)3 land trust, and Blue Mountains Conservancy was born. Join us this Saturday, June 24th, from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. (PLEASE NOTE DATE AND TIME CHANGE! Outing was originally scheduled for June 10th but will now take place on June 24th!) at End Creek (66437 Hunter Rd, on the right just before you get to End Rd: go past the house and the barns to the big red metal building!). If you'd rather caravan, meet us at the ODS parking lot on Jefferson and 3rd in La Grande at 6:00 p.m., and we can drive as a group. Wear proper hiking gear, and feel free to bring the whole family! June 24th marks Coalition of Oregon Land Trust's first annual statewide Walk the Lands Day. Join Oregonians everywhere and get outside to appreciate first-hand what conservation looks like and how it makes our state a better place. JUST ADDED! ANOTHER WAY TO CELEBRATE 'WALK THE LANDS' DAY!!
